• Anyone know if there’s a best practice for this in the professional finance world? I can visually test for normality easily, but I’m now running into situations where visually testing is not appropriate.

This algorithm has been performing well just assuming a normal distribution for certain things, but I’ve recently realized that at least one of the datasets that I’m making this assumption on is actually at least bi-modal.

  • I work for a nonprofit whose site switched from WordPress to Netlify a few years ago. Our SEO tanked with it, largely due to technical issues, and our dev hasn’t been able to address them. We’re now also facing larger hits to SEO due to Gemini — a decrease in organic traffic to the tune of 75%.

The long-term plan is to do a new site but in the meantime, I’m concerned about end-of-year, which is our biggest time for traffic and giving. I’ve been trying to come up with some solutions to work around the technical limitations of our site.

We don’t have the bandwidth to find a new dev, so one idea I had was to set up a subdomain of our main site on a CMS that I can work with. I have enough dev knowledge to build a site on Squarespace or WordPress, and we could move our top whatever pieces of content to [news.oursite.org](http://news.oursite.org) and continue our content marketing strategy through EOY there, with links back to [oursite.org/donate](http://oursite.org/donate), [oursite.org/moreinfo](http://oursite.org/moreinfo), etc. for other sections, and redirects set up for the migrated content.

This would be a band-aid, not a long-term solution, but we’re really bleeding traffic as our news content is about 85% of our site traffic and we had a very robust SEO strategy.

**My question: Is this a completely terrible idea?** I’ve come up with a number of scenarios for this but I need a sounding board. TIA.

  • – **Long-tail Keywords**: They might not fit in the title but could be excellent in descriptions or blog content related to your launch.

By integrating these strategies, your digital product can achieve higher visibility, draw in target users, and set a firm foundation for success. Remember, SEO isn’t just about seeing your product rise to the top of search results; it’s about creating meaningful connections with your audience, right from the get-go. So dive into your keyword research and start crafting that compelling, SEO-optimized title today!

  • I’m finishing a bachelor’s in computer science with a linguistics minor in around 2 years, and am considering a master’s in computational linguistics afterwords.

Ideally I want to work in the NLP space, and I have a few specific interests within NLP that I may even want to make a career of applied research, including machine translation and text-to-speech development for low-resource languages.

I would appreciate getting the perspectives of people who currently work in the industry, especially if you specialize in MT or TTS. I would love to hear from those with all levels of education and experience, in both engineering and research positions.

    1. What is your current job title, and the job title you had when you entered the field?
    2. How many years have you been working in the industry?
    3. What are your top job duties during a regular work day?
    4. What type of degree do you have? How helpful has your education been in getting and doing your job?
    5. What are your favorite and least favorite things about your job?
    6. What is your normal work schedule like? Are you remote, hybrid, or on-sight

    Thanks in advance!

Edit: Added questions about job titles and years of experience to the list, and combined final two questions about work schedules.

  • Has anyone in your life seemed jealous of your travels? If so how did you deal with it?

  • Hi all! I’m currently on a solo hiking trip across Switzerland and planning to stay near trailheads in small towns like Wasserauen, Appenzell, Linthal, Bettmeralp, and a few others.

I’m struggling to find accommodation—most places don’t show up on Airbnb or Booking.com. Google Maps lists some hotels and guesthouses, but many of them don’t have websites or contact numbers, so I’m not sure how to reach out or make a reservation.

Any tips on how to book stays in these smaller towns? Are there local platforms or booking methods I should be using? I’d really appreciate any help!

  • I’ve never seen anything like it. I mean, I know scamming is an integral part of America and an integral part of the world, but I feel like the white hot center of scamming is the PumpFun Telegram Solana confluence.

It is fun to make a token on PumpFun, but just the amount of sheer scammery that happens once you create a Telegram group, I’ve never seen anything like it.

In a way, it scares me that it’s a preview of things to come. That the 21st century will just be one long, unending scam. That any technology will be co-opted to just scam, and that the technologies that are being created facilitate scams better than they used to.

Chwowww, all I gotta say is the shit sucks and is terrible for you. Like junk food dipped in pesticides.
